The Storytelling Writers Competition
The Miskatonic Playhouse, in association with the Storytelling Collective, is running a competition to find our favourite Call of Cthulhu scenarios from the latest RPG Writers course. We plan to publish an actual play of one of the winning scenarios.
The Rules
We only accept scenarios designed for Call of Cthulhu 7e.
The scenario must be written as part of the Storytelling Collective July 2022 workshop.
The scenario must be finished and published.
The scenario should be a one-shot. This means it is designed to be finished in under 4 hours.
We won't accept any scenarios longer than 12,000 words. Ideally it should be under 10,000 words.
The scenario should be entirely your own work. We’ll accept collaborations, but if you’ve paid for your artwork or an editor, you don’t qualify.
The Miskatonic Playhouse team will create a shortlist of 5 scenarios that we consider to be the best quality and announce and advertise all five as 'Winners'. We’ll choose one of the winners based on the ease of recording it and publish an actual play of the scenario on our Youtube as part of our new 'hobby' feed.
How to Enter
Email miskatonicplayhouse@gmail.com with the subject line 'Competition entry - *Name of Scenario*'
In the email, we need a short synopsis of your scenario (less than 250 words). This is your 'Sales Pitch'. Show off your hook here and get us excited to pick it up and read it.
Next, your scenario needs to be listed on DriveThruRPG. Once it is, you can go to your 'Account', click on 'Promotion Tools' and then click 'Send Complimentary Copy'
Send a copy of the PDF to miskatonicplayhouse@gmail.com
And that's it! You have entered the competition! We will not be able to reply to every single entry so don't expect any replies immediately.
How Can I Win?
The team will judge the scenarios based on their general quality. This includes the quality and clarity of the writing, the quality of any handouts and other artwork as well as the all important front cover. Since we know many of you are new to this, we're going to be focusing on the quality of the writing and we don’t expect professional art. We are all experienced keepers, so the key questions for us will be 'How easily can I take this material and run an amazing game for my friends?' In order to be picked for the actual play, we'll be asking ourselves the even more important question which is 'Can we take this material and create something worth listening to?'.
If you think your scenario fits the bill, then drop us a line!
Closing dates for entry are 11:59pm (GMT+1) on the 15th August and we'll announce our winners in early September!
We're looking forward to reading your scenarios.
